Merry Christmas from Everyone! :)

Photoshop Assignments

For this assignment we had to clone our faces on to a celebrity, and we also had to make a wacky animal. Mine is a koala dog, and me as Emma Watson. That is all :)

Pixelation Projects

This week we completed our pixelation videos and posted them to our blogs. Mine is in the post below. A pixelation video is when you take a series of still photos continually one after another. This creates a moving effect, and the whole thing looks like a video when you are finished. After we finished shooting them, we made them into movies in Windows Movie Maker. This took 1 whole class period. When we edited them we added music and transitions to add to the overall effect.

Prezi, Natural Light, and Face Swapping

This week in photography we did Prezi-tations on famous photographers. We used the website http://www.prezi.com/. I did my prezi on a celebrity photographer, Annie Leibovitz. Also, my partner and I finally completed our natural light photo assignment. Currently, we are working on our face swapping and pixelation storyboard. There will be a post on this later next week.

Natural Light

For this shoot, we used natural light from the north entrance rather than studio light to create a softer, more natural photo.

3 Point Lighting ... and NOSSA ! :)

One of our photo assignments this week was 3 point lighting. This is when you have a key light, fill light, and back light on in the studio at one time. The lighting for these pictures never really changes, so it gave us time to have fun with the shoot. The NOSSA banner was a bonus. Congrats to the Sr. Girls team! :)

Silhouette, Side Light, Back Light, and Direct Light.

Silhouette - The light for the silhouette was placed behind the subject, giving a dark, outlined effect

Side Light - The light for the side photo was placed beside the subject at height level, giving a shadowed facial effect

Back Light - For the effect of back light, a light is placed behind the subject at an angle, giving a backdrop shadow

Direct Light  - For direct light, the light is placed at a 45 degree angle facing the subject.

The Rule of Thirds, Shape and Form, and Line

Rule of Thirds - In order to take more efective images and better use the space within the camera frame, photographers follow the rule of thirds. The photographer visualizes the frame cut into thirds, both vertically and horizonally.  The point at which the imaginary lines intersect is an ideal place for the subject.
This photo demonstrates the rule of thirds. The screen is split into 3 horizontally and vertically, and the subject is off centre
Shape and Form - Shape is a two dimensional representation in the photograph. It has height and width but no depth. Shape can also be implied. Usually no details are present, all we see is the shape.

This photo demonstrates shape and form. There are no details, and the shot focuses on the shape of the surroundings

This photo demonstrates line very well. The railway track leads your eve through the picture effectively.
Line - The use of line on a photograph can be very powerful. A vertical or horizontal line suggests a sense of symmetry. It can cut the frame in two. If placed off centre horizontally, it can suggest peace or rest. A slanting line is dynamic. It conveys motion within the frame.
This is a texture photo. The veins in the leaf are well defined and it makes the viewer think of what it would feel like to touch the leaf.

Texture - Texture also creates illusion. It triggers an emotional response based on our experiences. We know what sandpaper feels like. Texture can support a subject or be the subject itself.

5x7 Black and White Enlargements Fail.. and then Success! :)

Abigail and I were partners for the black and white enlargement assignment and I have to say, it was a success. At first, our test strip was way too dark, but we stopped it down until it was in focus and sharp. The second test strip went better. Our final enlargement turned out really well. Now we're off to the dark room to make our second one! Until next week ...

Photograms and Contact Sheets

This week (well actually last week. This post didn't get published until today) we did photograms and contact sheets in the dark room. The photograms were really cool. You got to put objects onto a piece of photo paper, and then expose it for 5 seconds. After that you put it in the developer for 1 min, stop bath for 30 sec, and fixer for 30 sec. Finally you wash it for 2 minutes, then dry. Thats all :)

Good Pictures, and Great Food. Happy Thanksgiving! :)

This week in photography we did a lot. There was our annual Korah garbage clean up, which resulted in some really awesome pictures. We had a depth of field quiz today, and we've been working with the manual camera film a lot. Our group of 4 consists of Abigail, Ashlie, Cayley and me. Our films turned out nicely, ven though we developed someone elses film before our own! Its also the long weekend. Happy Thanksgiving! :)

A Short Week, and a Manual Camera.

This week is coming to a short end. We're done school for the week after today, and we have a new photo assignment involving manual cameras and film. I think I understand why the world switched to digital SLR's. My partner for the assignment is Abigail, and our first camera was broken. We have a new one now and the project is finishing up nicely. Until next week! :)

A Good End to a GREAT Week! :)

This week was pretty interesting. We have 2 new  photo assignments, Sports/Action, and Depth of Focus. Sports/Action is pretty much complete because we went to the gym yesterday, and everyone got really good shots. That means that today I have to work on Depth of Focus. We have to take turns using the SLR's, so it might be a while. Its okay though, because today is Friday :)

We're just full of knowledge ...

I'm happy to report that this week in Mr. W's photography class we learned a lot. The pep rally was our first major photo assignment, and everyone took really nice photos. We also learned a lot about the history of photography. Who knew Thomas Edison invented movie film?

Everyone Wants to be in a Movie ...

Okay so new assignment. Mr. W wants us to make a 30 second slide show about ourselves on Windows Movie Maker. Everyone wants to be in a movie, even if its just a small one about themselves :)

First Photography Class - Success!

The first day of photography class with Mr. Wrigley was a success! We played the "Spirit Game" where we learned each others names and things about them. Mr. W decided to share that his dog died. Not really info we needed to know, but hey, he's renovating his kitchen!
